Why Do Dots Appear When Importing a DXF Background Map?

Explains why dots (point objects) are visible when importing DXF background maps in Infrakit and how to manage their appearance.

Last updated on 13 Jan, 2026

When you import a DXF file as a background map in Infrakit, you may notice small dots displayed on the 2D map. This article explains why these dots appear and how to manage their visibility.

Key Principles

DXF Point Objects Are Displayed as Dots

Infrakit interprets point objects in a DXF file as small dots when visualizing a background map. This is the default behavior and helps represent any point data included in the file, such as survey markers or design reference points.

Dots represent point layers present in your DXF file. They are not errors but a standard way to visualize point objects on the map.

Dots Can Be Removed by Editing the DXF File

If you do not want dots to appear on your background map, you can open your DXF file in a CAD editor and delete the point layers. After saving and re-importing the file, the dots will no longer appear in Infrakit.

Remove point layers in your CAD software before uploading the DXF as a background map to avoid unwanted dots.

Examples

For example, if your design DXF includes survey stakes as points, these will show up as dots in the background map. Removing the point layer before import will ensure only lines and surfaces are visualized.
